FAQ

Do you hunt?- We do not hunt our animals nor do we work with hunters who kill for the sake of taxidermy. We believe in a full cycle life if possible and if we do work with a hunter/taxidermist it is someone who is using parts of the animal for food or other resources. We do our best to ensure that our specimens are sustainably sourced.
Do you do your own taxidermy? -Yes and no, we do not do taxidermy in the shop. Our staff is not all trained taxidermist and we do not have the time or space to produce taxidermy in the shop itself.  We do design the poses and request the animals be positioned for our displays by the several taxidermist that we employ outside the studio. Our taxidermist for larger items are mostly exclusive to us and share the same values that we at Scenic City Oddities do. We do not always know what will be coming our way so sometimes we cannot promise that we will be able to accommodate special requests.
Do you sell bats?- We do sell bats but there is a limited supply and once that supply is finished we will no longer be offering bats or pieces made with bat skulls and bones. We purchased our supply from a retiring oddities seller in the states. We weren’t completely aware of the unethical sourcing despite people who sell bats stating that it was from bat farms. If you have any further concerns and questions do not hesitate to reach out to us.

I found a dead animal that I want to preserve, what should I do?- ALWAYS WHERE GLOVES AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT if you are going to be handling anything dead before it’s been preserved. Put the remains in a sealed bag and freeze it and do not store them where you keep your food. The next part is getting in contact with local taxidermists. Not every taxidermist can do every animal so you may have to look for one that does specific things (i.e. snakes, reptiles, etc). We do not accept animals that our staff have not procured ourselves.  We always recommend that you seek out local artists.
Do you sell human remains?-No. We do not sell human remains, nor have we ever.
