They are attached to a natural wood base and are picked at random. Above is an example of what you will receive. Most have light and darker feathers mixed in as well and some have a darker back than others. These are picked at random and we cannot guarantee what species of wood you little guy will come on as we use all different species, some are birch and some are other hardwoods. It is normal for some of the bark to come off when these slices are cut as well so we also cannot guarantee that the piece you receive won't be missing some bark off the sides, sorry it is just the nature of the beast.
